The Wedding Planner's Version of the Wedding Day
By:
Brooke Sheehan
This is the chronicle of an unknowing Wedding Planner:
Everything had been thought of...
......or so it was thought.
Disaster struck that morning when the five girls went to the beauty
parlor, that had been booked a month in advance, to get their hair
done. After booking, no one had bothered to double-check that they
were on the list. They weren't. They had to have friends and family
members do their hair, as the salon had no time. They got to the
church and began to get dressed for the pictures. As I had nothing
to do, I helped. That's when we noticed that the flowers hadn't
arrived yet. A little later, they did. I helped the flower woman
to arrange them and decorate the church. Everything went fine, until
a button popped off one of the ushers' tux! No one had thought to
bring black thread, so white had to do. An hour to go, and I'm sitting,
barefoot, in a random location, sewing on a button. Fixed, I went
and checked on the bride. She had her dress on, but the veil wouldn't
attach to her tiara. Her hair was too big around. Everyone cheer
for bobby pins! I pinned it in place, then spent 10 minutes under
the skirt, pinning it so she could walk. 5 minutes to figure out
how to attach the train, and she's ready. 20 minutes to go finds
me kneeling on the floor, helping an usher pin down the bridal walking
strip. I find the guest book attendant, pin on her corsage, and
sit back. Help pass out programs, and then baby-sit the groom's
niece and nephew during the ceremony. The kiss, the birdseed, and
they leave. Returning for more pictures, I fight with the hairspray
to get the birdseed out of the bride's hair beforehand. Enjoy the
reception.
And I was just there as a guest!
